Sustainability of Van der Valk Gorinchem

Our hotel proudly uses solar panels and heat pumps on the roof to generate sustainable energy and reduce our ecological footprint. These innovative technologies help us to meet our energy needs in an environmentally friendly way. Together, we contribute to a more sustainable future.

At our place, food waste is tackled by converting leftovers into valuable biogas, thanks to our advanced BioTransformer technology. This initiative not only reduces waste but also contributes to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly hotel operation. Discover how we are making greener choices for a better planet!

Van der Valk Hotel Gorinchem works with Green Stay. With this concept, you as a guest can choose to make a positive contribution to greening the Netherlands. If you choose to skip your interim cleaning during your stay, we will plant a tree on your behalf in the Valkenbos.

We use cold and heat storage (KWO). This means that the heat is stored in the ground during the summer so that we can use it to heat the hotel in the winter. In the winter, we store the cold instead, so that we can use it to cool the hotel in the summer.

We also promote environmentally friendly transportation. In our hotel, we provide facilities for electric vehicles, including special Eneco charging points for electric cars. This way, we encourage sustainable travel and contribute to cleaner and greener mobility.

We use combined heat and power generation. In combined heat and power generation (CHP), heat and electricity are produced simultaneously using an engine running on a single fuel. This fuel can be a fossil fuel (such as fuel oil or natural gas) or a renewable fuel (such as biogas or biomass).

We use local suppliers to keep our ecological footprint as small as possible. We serve a variety of beers from a brewery in nearby Almkerk, wines from Dordrecht, and cheeses from Gorinchem. In addition, we collaborate with the sustainable and organic tea brand Peeze, which invests its revenue in improving the living conditions at the source. We also partner with Earth Water, who supply us with FSC certified cardboard bottles for the hotel rooms.

Green Key is the international certification for sustainable businesses in the recreation and leisure industry, as well as for the corporate market. The certification sets requirements in the areas of environment and nature. Currently, our hotel is still under construction and we do not yet possess this certification, but upon completion of the building, we will aim for the Green Key certification (GOLD).
